Pork Shares are sold out for 2022, but individual cuts of pork are available through the farm store.
The pigs for our pork shares are raised by Stormy Roost Farm. A small family farm outside of Bellingham, WA. The pigs are rotated through a savanna like part of the farm that has widely spaced trees with grass and other vegetation growing in between or through open lush pastures. Since pigs are omnivorous creatures, we often see them foraging for earthworms and grubs, eating roots and grasses. They are also fed non-gmo, corn and soy-free feed from Red Bridge Farm.
The pigs for our individual cuts are raised by Bittersweet Family Farm. Bittersweet Family Farm a small, sustainable, family farm located on 25 acres in Deming, WA. Their primary focus is on raising heritage breed pigs. They firmly believe that every animal deserves happiness, regardless of their role in the great circle of life. Their animals are raised humanely and naturally, with lots of love and the utmost respect. The pigs are rotated to fresh pasture as needed and are fed conventional feed from a local mill. They never have to leave the farm. They are born, raised, and processed on the farm minimizing stress and giving them the best life possible.
As with grass-fed beef, the type of food the animal is eating affects the nutritional profile of the meat of the animal. Here are just a few of the benefits of forest-raised pork, in the context of a balanced diet:

As with grass-fed beef, the type of food the animal is eating affects the nutritional profile of the meat of the animal. Here are just a few of the benefits of forest-raised pork, in the context of a balanced diet:
- Pastured pigs consume foods with higher omega-3 fatty acids, leading to pork with much better fat quality and a more balanced omega-3 to omega-6 ratio. For example, this paper from Science Daily shows how feeding acorns to pigs increases their ingestion of omega-3s.
- Pasture-raised pork is significantly tastier than conventionally-raised pork! It tastes richer, with the flavor profile changing slightly based on the season in which the pig was slaughtered.
- The micronutrients available in pasture-raised pork are a lot more plentiful than in their conventional counterparts: some studies estimate 300% more Vitamin E and 75% more selenium (Ohio State University).
- Vitamin D, which a lot of people are deficient in, is found in higher concentrations in the meat of pasture-raised pigs (because of their exposure to sunlight). In fact, the second-highest source of dietary Vitamin D is lard from pastured pigs (Chris Masterjohn, PhD).
