How did we get started?
Oak Meadows Farm was started by David Whittaker, a Whatcom County born and raised young farmer. The farm began with an interest in raising ducks for eggs. With each season that has gone by, we have experimented with different enterprises, learned sustainable and environmentally friendly production methods, and grown the farm to be a recognized and respected name in the community. A lot of what we do today is based on the principles pioneered by Joel Salatin of Polyface Farm and Food Inc fame. All our animals are raised in a manner that optimizes their health and happiness and which rejuvenate the land in the process.
TEAM MEMBERS
David Whittaker is the main farmer at Oak Meadows Farm and manages all the day to day operations. He recently graduated with an AA degree in Agribusiness and enjoys archery, fishing, reading, and traveling in his spare time. His parents work alongside him and support him in his endeavors.
Brian Whittaker is David's father and is a third-generation grower/farmer. His grandfather was a landscape architect and nurseryman, his father ran a rare fruit nursery and raised avocados and kiwi in the Santa Barbara region, and Brian worked alongside his father and grandfather and also raised rare fruits and berries in the Pacific Northwest. He enjoys watching the farming genes continue through to the next generation, and is excited about all that David has accomplished.
Patty Whittaker, David's mom, calls herself Oak Meadows Farm's secretary/public relations person/business manager. With a Bachelor's degree in Economics and Business and a career in administration and teaching, she is enjoying putting her skills to work to help grow the family farm. Growing up, she always dreamed of living on a farm and being surrounded by farm animals, and is constantly amazed to find that her dreams are coming true through her son.
